Association of African Workers in Rosarno holds demo in Rome

The Association of African Workers in Rosarno, together with a network of ant-racist associations and immigrant communities in Rome will hold a demo tomorrow, Thursday, 11th February at 15:00, at Piazza SS apostoli.

During the demo they’ll ask the Prefect of Rome and local authorities to pay attention to their desperate conditions and to regularize all irregular workers who were victims of violence and exploitation in Rosarno. They’ll also ask the local authorities to provide them decent accommodation.

The slogan of the demo is: “Never again another Rosarno, it is just to rebel, it is necessary to claim rights”.
The Association of African Workers in Rosarno was formed by some of the Africans who used to work in Rosarno before their revolt last month. They have since remained jobless and homeless.

The revolt of African workers in Rosarno highlighted the serious problem of exploitation of workers in Italian rural areas, the Association of African Workers in Rosarno said.

The only response from the Government was to repress the revolt and evacuate immigrants from the area, leaving many jobless and homeless, they said.

This will be the second demo they are holding in Rome. The first one was held on 2nd February.
