The Italian Government should regularise all irregular immigrants with jobs, Mr. Cesare Pambianchi, President of Confcommercio in Rome and Lazio has said.
He said they have ascertained that there are almost one million irregular immigrants in the country.
In an apparent criticism of the Government’s decision last year to only regularize irregular domestic workers, Mr. Pambianchi said that there are so many irregular immigrants who are not caregivers (badanti) and housekeepers (colf).
Mr. Pambianchi said “We are asking the Government to regularize all who are working or who could work in our firms” without limiting regularisation to a specific sector so as to avoid the absurd discrimination between those working in families and firms.
If Italy would like to transform the presence of immigrant workers into real resources for the country, then regularization should be carried out together with training and formation to facilitate the integration of immigrants and to avoid their discrimination when it comes to hiring, Mr. Pambianchi said.
The level of training should also be raised so as to avoid provision of low quality services and products, he said.
