The Association of Municipal Councils of Italy (ANCI) has appreciated the government’s decision to consider prolonging the validity period of Job Search Permits.
Integration Minister Andrea Riccardi recently said that the government must extend the validity period of Job Search Permits from six months to at least one year, in order to save many immigrants who have lost their jobs from becoming irregular immigrants.
Mayor of Padua Flavio Zanonato, who is also the head of Immigration Department of the Association of Municipal Councils of Italy, described the move as a positive step towards integration of immigrants.
“Whoever is against such a proposal is not serious about security and risks forcing many people to become irregular immigrants,” Mr. Zanonato said.
He also appreciated the government’s decision to support the reform of citizenship law to grant citizenship to children born in Italy of immigrant parents.
