Two Algerians were yesterday forcefully deported from Italy under very inhuman conditions.
On board Alitalia flight from Rome to Tunis, police officers restrained the immigrants using nylon handcuffs and duct taped their mouths.
Filmmaker Francesco Sperandeo, one of the passengers on the flight managed to steal a photo of the scene.
Looking at the photo makes one wonder why human beings should be treated in such an inhuman manner, stripping them of their dignity and rights.
The people who were being deported were not criminals, they only happened to be in the Italian territory without permit.
“This is the European civility and democracy,” said Mr. Sperandeo.
He said he was shocked by the total indifference of the other passengers.
Mr. Sperandeo, who tried to protest said the officers arrogantly told him to return to his seat because they were “carrying out a normal police operation”.
Ministry of Home Affairs must now clarify if to duct tape deportees’ mouths is “a normal police operation”.
