A special conference on immigration will be held at the Senate on 14th June 2012.
The theme of the conference is: "Immigration, a challenge and a necessity. Proposals for a leap forward".
The whole day conference organised by the Radical Party will bring together experts on immigration and politicians to share ideas on how to improve immigration policies in the country.
It will also be a platform for the government officials to disclose their plans as far as immigration is concerned.
The conference will be officially opened by Giuliano Amato, former Prime minister.
The first morning session will be dedicated to national, European and International laws on immigration. Some of the issues to be discussed include push-backs, removals, dismantling Roma settlements, etc. It will be chaired by Senator Pietro Marcenaro, President of the Senate’s Human Rights Commission.
The second morning session will dedicated to discussing good immigration – stereotypes and reality. It will be chaired by Roberto Natale, President of the National Federation of Italian Press (Fnsi).
In the afternoon speakers will discuss integration as an urgent need civilly, and economically. Home Affairs Minister Anna Maria Cancellieri and Integration Minister Andrea Riccardi will be among the key speakers.
MPs from different parties (Democratic Party, People of Liberty Party and Future and Liberty Party) will take part in a roundtable discussion.
The conference will be officially closed by the Deputy Speaker of the Senate Emma Bonino.
