Gianfranco Fini, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies has urged Italian institutions and civil society to promote integration of immigrants in the country.
In a message to a conference on immigration held at the Senate on 14th June 2012, Mr. Fini said the way integration of immigrants is handled will determine Italy’s chances of having a united society where human rights are respected.
He challenged Italian politicians to come up with a model of citizenship mainly based on the willingness of each one to belong to the society in which they live, by subscribing to the values of the country’s Constitution.
