The new measure to regularise illegal immigrant workers in Italy gives employers a chance of transforming undeclared employment relationships into regular employment, Integration Minister Andrea Riccardi has said.
The measure, Mr. Riccardi told Sole 24 Ore newspaper, also enables undeclared workers to finally work legally, and is a move against exploitation of immigrant workers.
Reacting to some politicians especially from the People of Liberty Party and Northern League Party who have been opposing the measure to regularise illegal immigrant workers, the minister said the measure was fully backed both the Senate and Chamber of Deputies.
He added that employers applying for regularisation will be exempted from heavy sanctions prescribed by the EU and Italian laws for hiring illegal immigrant workers.
It is not a general amnesty for all illegal immigrants but limited to illegal immigrant workers, Mr. Riccardi said. “The rules are very strict,” he added.
