Question: I came with my wife and son to Italy in 2010 on tourism visa. We didn’t leave when our visa expired. I’ve heard that the government wants to regularise illegal immigrants.
As a family, will each of us be required to pay the regularisation fee or only one of us will pay to cover the three of us? Thank you.
Answer: Unfortunately this is not blanket amnesty, that is, it is not meant to regularise all illegal immigrants in Italy. This measure is only meant to regularise non-EU illegal immigrants who are working illegally in the country. Therefore, for you to be regularised, you and your wife must have an employer willing to apply for your regularisation. The same is valid for your son if he is at least 18 years old. But if your son is still a child, then he can’t be regularised using this measure. After you and your wife have been regularised, you can apply for family reunification with your son.
