I have expired tourist visa. Can I be regularised?

Question: I came to Italy in 2011 on a tourist visa and was issued Tax code (codice fiscal). Now my tourist visa has expired. I have an employer willing to apply for my regularisation. Can I use codice fiscale as proof of my presence in Italy?

Answer: Yes, you can use the tax code to prove your presence in Italy. But since you came to Italy using a tourist visa, you can use the rubberstamp on your passport showing when you arrived and the declaration of presence you made to the police. Please note that all immigrants arriving in Italy on tourist visa must make the declaration of presence at the local police station.
