Question: I came to Italy in June 2011 on a seasonal work permit but I lost my passport. I only have the photocopy of the lost passport. Can I apply to be regularized?
Answer: You have not provided full details so it’s difficult to know whether you qualify for regularization. Normally those coming to Italy for seasonal work are given permits valid for a maximum of nine months. So assuming that your permit has expired and you didn’t apply for its renewal, you can apply to be regularized.
This brings up the issue of your lost passport. If you reported to the police the loss of your passport, and you have already been issued a new one, then you should be able to apply to be regularized.
But if you didn’t report the loss of your passport and have not yet obtained a new one, it may be difficult for you to apply to be regularized because you’ll be required to have a valid passport or equivalent document.
