I came to Italy by car from France. How can I prove my presence?

Question: I came to Italy in July 2011 by car together with friends. We entered through the Italy-France border and since then I’ve been living and working here illegally. I don’t have any document to prove that I’ve been here since July 2011. Only my friends and employer know it. Is it possible for me to apply for regularisation?

Answer: Since the border police didn’t stamp your passport when you entered Italy, it is difficult to prove that you’ve been living in the country since July 2011.

If at all you declared your presence to the local police in your area, then you can use that to prove that you were living in the country by 31st December 2011. But if you didn’t declare your presence to the local police, then it’s wise to wait for the government to publish the list of other documents which may be accepted to as proof of your presence in Italy.
