Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been advised to pay attention to the new forms of racism emerging in Italy. Mr. Rocco Buttiglione, President of UDC said his party has always been against the policy of opening widely the country’s borders to all.

UDC is also against what Mr. Buttiglione termed superficial goodness of the leftwing parties when it comes to immigration.

The poor handling of influx of immigration leads to irregular immigration and eventually to racism, Mr. Buttiglione said. He also warned against the new forms of racism emerging in the country.

Mr. Buttiglione asked the Government to allow into the country the right number of foreigners needed by the economy to take up the jobs Italians no longer want.

Mr. Buttiglione observed that there are foreigners who would like to be honest but are not put in a condition to be fully honest.

Immigrants are not only a source of manual labour, they also have hearts and brains, he said.

Mr. Buttiglione asked the country to grant rights to honest workers who contribute to the prosperity of Italy, and to be mean with dishonest people.
