Mr. Roberto Calderoli, a top leader of the Lega Nord party has expressed satisfaction at the Cassation Court’s ruling that irregular immigrants must be expelled even if they have minor children going to school in Italy.
Mr. Calderoli, a Minister without portfolio for Legislative Simplification, said that the Court’s decision which makes it clear that having children going to school is not enough for an irregular immigrant to regularize his status in the country, finally re-establishes the rule of law.
Children cannot be used as an excuse to regularise the situation of irregular immigrants, Mr. Calderoli said, adding that entering and staying irregularly in Italy is a crime and it’s not possible to hide behind or worse still, exploit minor children in order to cheat the law.
